Cambodia Town is one of the places that makes Long Beach culturally distinctive. Centred along part of Anaheim Street, the district reflects the history and continuing presence of a major Cambodian American community.
For visitors, food is often the easiest introduction. Khmer restaurants offer a reason to explore beyond the waterfront and experience flavours that are deeply connected with modern Long Beach.
More than a restaurant stop
It is worth remembering that Cambodia Town is a living community rather than a themed attraction. Local businesses, community organisations and cultural events all contribute to its identity.
Approach it as you would any urban neighbourhood: come to eat and explore, but also take an interest in why the community is here.
Discover Khmer food
Cambodian cuisine can include soups, noodles, grilled dishes, fresh herbs and fermented flavours. If the menu is unfamiliar, asking for a recommendation is often more rewarding than ordering the safest-looking item.
Individual restaurants and businesses change, so current local recommendations are more useful than a fixed list that quickly becomes outdated.
I would include Cambodia Town on a Long Beach itinerary precisely because it does not resemble the city’s conventional tourist areas. It adds history, migration and food to a trip that might otherwise focus almost entirely on the coast.
